About Crisscross

How to play Crisscross, the free daily mini crossword

Each day has a 5x5 crossword with about ten clues, the same for everyone. Tap a square and type, and tap it again to switch between across and down; on a computer, the arrow keys move and Tab goes to the next clue. The clock starts when you press Start and stops when every square is right.

Is it like the NYT Mini?

It's the same idea: a small crossword you can finish over coffee, but free. Every word has two clues written for it, one plain and one playful, so a word that comes back usually comes back with a new clue.

How long does it take?

Usually one to three minutes. Your time earns a title, from Hatchling (over three minutes) to Silk Sprinter (45 seconds or less).

What if I'm stuck?

Check marks the letters that are wrong, and Reveal fills in the square you're on. Each adds 10 seconds to your time.

Is it free?

Yes, a new one every midnight, with nothing to sign up for. Practice puzzles are unlimited and don't count toward your stats.
